“I had two major events in my life that sparked my desire to become a physician. First, when I was a child, I spent weeks in a hospital bed with a severe infection. The kindness and joy of my pediatrician inspired me to become a doctor. The second event was the death of my grandma from heart disease. I was blessed with generous mentors who guided me and believed in what I could achieve. My clinical interest for the last 10 years is the prevention, treatment, and reversal of chronic cardiovascular diseases through lifestyle modifications with a holistic approach. This change was motivated by seeing the benefits of lifestyle changes in the reversal of my son’s severe asthma and my own recovery from an autoimmune illness.”
“In my free time I enjoy the outdoors with my family, taking mission trips to third world countries, listening to my son play cello and piano, training our new puppy Stella with my daughter, and partnering with my husband to share God’s love in our community.”
Anabel Facemire MD, FACC, is board-certified non-invasive cardiologist with a special interest in prevention, treatment and reversal of chronic diseases through lifestyle modifications with a wholisitc approach: “Through early detection, treatment and rehabilitation, I want to empower my patients to achieve abundant and long-lasting health.” Her treatment approach focuses on the latest evidence-based medicine, bolstered by teaching the benefits of nutrition, exercise, stress management and spiritual support.
Dr. Facemire’s journey started with the illness of her own son. After going to numerous specialists and experimenting with several combinations of treatments unsuccessfully, she finally discovered that her son was allergic to dairy. However, it was not just the removal of the allergen but embracing a whole food plant-based diet that changed the destiny of her family’s health and of her patients. As she started to teach her patients individually, in group sessions, through seminars and conferences, many of them experienced reversal of disease, decrease in the number of medications and powerful health transformations.
The most recent life changing event occurred during the Covid pandemic, when she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. Thankfully, her faith in God, a new approach to treating her illness with food and her perseverance in following the principles learned at Years Restored Lifestyle Center recovered her health completely. Now, she is passionate about sharing those principles with those in need of abundant health.
Dr. Facemire completed her fellowship training in cardiovascular disease at Mount Sinai Medical Center’s Cardiology Division in New York City. She believes that God wants to bring physical and spiritual healing to a world in great need of whole-person healing. Her husband, Fred, and children, Melody and Ethan are currently supporting a school in Castle Valley, Utah.
Diseases of the heart and cardiovascular system kill and disable more people than anything else, but Dr. Anabel Facemire has personally helped women and men of many ages, ethnicities and backgrounds to reverse disease at its root, restoring health and wholeness. Her individualized treatment approach focuses on the latest evidence-based medicine, bolstered by teaching the benefits of plant-based nutrition, exercise, stress management and spiritual support.
Heart disease is now known to be caused by chronic inflammation at the cellular level. In a Harvard Women’s Health Study published in 2020, participants with the highest C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels – a marker for inflammation of the blood vessels – was more than four times as likely to have died from coronary artery disease or have had a heart attack or stroke. Because of this, therapeutic anti-inflammatory protocols have been created to eliminate the root causes of inflammation.
A whole food plant-based diet consists of unprocessed plant foods, including fruit, vegetables, grains, seeds, nuts and legumes. Plant-based foods are full of fiber, rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, free of cholesterol, and low in calories and saturated fat. Eating a variety of these foods provides all the protein, calcium, and other essential nutrients your body needs. Multiple research studies have proven that people who eat a plant-based diet have a lower risk of dying from heart disease when compared to non-vegetarians.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in U.S. One person dies every 34 seconds from cardiovascular disease. One important contributing factor for hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) and heart attacks described by Researchers at Cleveland Clinic is our gut bacteria or microbiota. This research team published several studies about this subject. One of these studies was published by The New England Journal of Medicine in 2013. It described how most choline in the diet derived from lecithin and carnitine found in eggs, meat, milk and dairy products, liver, shellfish, and fish have a connection with the intestinal bacteria of omnivores who metabolizes these substances producing trimethylamine oxide (TMAO), which causes vascular injury related to atherosclerosis, heart failure and kidney disease. The gut flora generates this metabolite TMAO that alters cholesterol metabolism in the artery wall and other locations within the body. This investigation was a powerful validation for Whole Food Plant Based Nutrition, because ingestion of these animal foods by persons who strictly consume plants produces no TMAO. In fact, people who follow a plant-based diet do not have intestinal bacteria capable of producing TMAO. Therefore the food you choose three times a day can bring you harm or healing.
Plant-based diets have been proven to prevent and reverse heart disease, improve cholesterol, lower blood pressure, reduce body weight, prevent type 2 diabetes, decrease the incidence of certain cancers and improve mental health and well-being.
I invite you to discover with me the power of whole food plant-based nutrition.
The NEW HEARTS Therapeutic Protocol is a therapeutic lifestyle intervention that uses a multifaceted approach to helping patients improve cardiac symptoms and inflammation and to decrease dependence on medication. The objective is to educate the patients on how the body can be aided in its effort to regain the right environment for health and healing, by supplying the proper nutrients, avoiding toxins and inflammatory triggers, opening detoxification pathways, and by addressing spiritual and emotional needs.
